Zenevloed picks: 10 outstanding releases of October
Halfway through November already, so this October list is well overdue! After a busy period, including our last event in OCCII, it is time to look back at the past month. The wait was worth it though, with some very nice records being released just on the last days of October (aka Halloween). We have decided to compile this monthly list, because of the sheer amount of underground releases that simply deserve a mention due to their beautiful quality, cutting-edge sound, and inspiring artwork. This list is in no particular order! As always we will also provide links to where you can buy these gems and support the artists/collectives.
01. The Boiler – BODY=DEATH [CUT SURFACE]
The mutant sounds on the record BODY=DEATH are an evocative and playful take on the wave genre. Infused with a whole lot of punk attitude, electronic nostalgia, and emotional ambiance, the tracks on this vinyl with the assistance of Mahk Rumbae (aka Codex Empire) are 100% a breath of fresh air. On the bandcamp of the Austrian artist we can find some more self-released titles to dig into.

02. Saga House October batch w/ Human Adult Band – T. Penn Collections and They Will Burn Us To Ashes – They Will Burn Us To Ashes (cover photo)
The ardent collectors of strange sounds released on tape have yet another lovely label to look out for. Philadelphia based Saga House, started by People Skills (Siltbreeze, Blackest Ever Black), is more of a personal curatorial project than a label with a strictly commercial vision. The tapes and duplicator which Saga House uses have been dug up from a church basement and are now the new containers of projects of local musicians. Majority of the sales profit go to the artists and a minor amount is used to pay back the expenses of printing the j-cards.
T. Penn Collections by Human Adult Band from New Jersey contains bits of the punk band archive drenched with 90s garage spirit. Eerily slow, you can almost sense the stretching of time in this too small urban apartment in New Jersey.
[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1543349443 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=333333 tracklist=false artwork=small]
The self-titled tape They Will Burn Us To Ashes offers up an ambient work almost entirely made of tape noise condensed to rhythm. Contemplative, introspective, and reduced to the bare essence.

03. V/A Kulør 001 w/ Schacke, DJ IBON, Repro, Sugar, Rune Bagge, Funeral Future
A while ago, we tipped the then new label Euromantic as an outfit to keep an eye on, especially considering their ice cold take on techno. Now, the Copenhagen based artists appear on the debut VA of the new label Kulør started by Courtesy. Great tracks combining that distinct sound made out of relentless percussion and ethereal melody.

04. V/A Previously Undisclosed Rituals w/ Years of Denial, Autumns, RNXRX, Maenad Veyl, Poison Green, Exhausted Modern
Presenting some of the most interesting names in contemporary Body Music and Wave, Maenad Veyl has gathered their ritualistic offerings for his latest VA on the VEYL label. Including a much awaited track by Years of Denial, who have premiered their new live set at our past event.

05. Emra Grid – From A Band Of Thoughts That Ended My Year [Opal Tapes]
As always we are making note of the inexhaustible output on Opal Tapes. This time we are highlighting Emra Grid’s powerful tape, almost too big and too expansive to be caught on such a medium. As with the previous releases, this one creates vast soundscapes to get yourself lost into, troublesome and finite.
[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1905594215 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=333333 tracklist=false artwork=small]
06. Yung Acid – Роза Паук [Tripalium Corp]
An intense coming together of foreign components, this release chronicles the two distinct worlds of the members of Yung Acid. Light and dark, stress and harmony, hip hop and Russian raves.
[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=1550240982 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=333333 tracklist=false artwork=small]
07. Sean Curtis Patrick – The Earth’s Green Mantle [Muzan Editions]
Beautiful, enigmatic, and lush. Sean Curtis Patrick curated this cassette as a companion to his last tour in Japan, transferring pure emotion on this medium.
[bandcamp width=100% height=120 album=637634332 size=large bgcol=ffffff linkcol=333333 tracklist=false artwork=small]
08. Cremation Lily x døves – Understanding Forever [Not on Label]
Long awaited release from the collab between Cremation Lily and døves, gathering attention ever since the teasing of Lovers Against The Rocks remix. This tape was a part of the tour merch during Cremation Lily’s last round around some venues supporting Wicca Phase Springs Eternal.
